Welcome to the Chakraborty lab in the Department of Biology at Texas A&M University. Our lab uses an interdisciplinary approach to unravel the molecular mechanisms underlying phenotypic variation and adaptation. We are particularly interested in elucidating the roles genome structural changes play in the evolution and health of an organism. Major lab research themes include the role of structural variants in variation in complex traits and adaptation, the evolution of sex-linked repetitive elements, and the role of protein structural constraints in phenotypic variation and functional innovation. Our lab employs cutting-edge computational and experimental methods to pursue ambitious and creative solutions to research problems.
