Matthew is an undergraduate student in the Chakraborty Lab majoring in University Studies-Bioinformatics with minors in Genetics and Biology. He joined the Chakraborty Lab in the Summer of 2024 after taking and really enjoying BIOL-450 in the previous Spring semester. Matthew analyzes genome assemblies and long-read data to study the role of structural variants, such as transposable elements in visual marker genes in Drosophila melanogaster. Matthew plans to work as a bioinformatics researcher in medical research for a couple of years before applying to PhD programs.
